30/04/19

The best of entertainment from April 2019, as chosen by Red Bee’s entertainment experts.

Best Documentary: HOMECOMING

Beyoncé’s legendary Coachella gig that, from conception, was always going to live beyond that moment in film. So during rehearsals every choreographed move, no matter how seemingly minor, was evaluated to look as incredible on screen as it would on stage.

Best TV Series: VEEP

The final season of the award-winning political comedy sees Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Selina Meyers back on the campaign trail for a third time. Heavy on satire and without an ounce of political correctness, the show consistently draws blood with its barbed one-liners. Hilarious and brutal in equal measure, razor-sharp writing and standout performances from an amazing cast, ensures Veep goes out on a high.

Best Exhibition: ANISH KAPOOR - PITZHANGER MANOR GALLERY

18th century architect Sir John Soane’s London show home has reopened with a stunning exhibition of perception altering pieces by sculptor Anish Kapoor. With trademark mirrored works and coloured illusions, this is an exhibition designed for Instagram. Go West!

Best Gig: CIRCA WAVES

The latest product from Liverpool’s production line of great guitar bands. Hot on the heels of their third album release, the quartet are looking and playing like they are loving their status as future festival headliners. From the rousing ‘Wake-Up’ to the triumphant ‘T-Shirt Weather’, they are the sound of summer.

Best Film: AVENGERS ENDGAME

Forget the 3 hour plus run time, this was a movie deserving of breaking every box office record. Beautifully paced, with sensitive characterisation, whip smart dialogue and unlike previous films, preciously short battle sequences.
